The children of Thomas Perry Bartee & Ruth Ann Highbarger

Ruth Ann (Highbarger) Bartee

Dona Frances Bartee, born Oct 18, 1884, was the second child born to Thomas Perry Bartee & Ruth Ann Highbarger. She married Charles R. Looney (aka. Charlie), born Oct 9, 1882. Charlie's father was John Looney, born in Missouri in March of 1852. John's parents were both born in Tennessee. Charlie's mother, Martha, was born in Missouri in 1854. Her parents were both born in Missouri. In 1900 John Looney and his family were living just a few farms away from Thomas Perry Bartee's farm.

Charlie had these brothers (all born in Missouri); William Looney, born - September 1875; Oscar, born - May 1881; Thomas, born - May 1886; Irwin, born - March 1888; Georgie, born - January 1890; and Roy, born - May 1892.

Charlie and Dona Frances (Bartee) Looney had ten (10) children; Daniel: John; Perry; Edith; Martha; Alpha; Maggie; Floyd; Maple Jewel; and Charles Rufus. All their children were born in Dallas County, Missouri.

Mary Ann Bartee, born November 27, 1886 was the third child born to Thomas Perry and Ruth Ann (Highbarger) Bartee. She married William Edgar Evans. William was the son of Simeon W. and Eliza Evans. William was born in July of 1887 in Dallas County, Missouri. His father and mother were both born in Illinois. Simeon W. Evans's mother and father were born in Kentucky. Eliza Evans's father was born in Ireland, her mother in North Carolina.

 

William had the following siblings (all born in Dallas Co., Mo. except Virginia A. (Palmer) Evans, born in Illinois.); Virginia A. (Palmer), born July 1874; Iva, born October 1884; Eliza E., born, October 1890; Anna F., born March 1896.

 

By 1920 William Edgar Evans was deceased and Mary (Bartee) Evans was living with William's parents, in Grant Township, Dallas County, Missouri. William and Mary had two children; Roscoe Evans, born abt. 1912; Bertha M., born abt. 1917.

 

The 1930 census indicates Mary had continued to live with William's parents.

Jesse Lorenzo Bartee, born February 25, 1889 in Dallas Co., Mo. was the fourth child Thomas and Ruth had. He married Mary Ethridge of Louisburg, Mo. on September 6, 1910.  The children of Jessie and Mary are; Ruth B., born 1911; Ruby L., born 1917; Nova L., born 1920; Zela D., born 1922; Frances, born 1927.

Sarah Catherine Bartee, born February 24, 1891 in Dallas Co., Mo. was the fifth child born to Thomas and Ruth Bartee. She married Elmer Macklin Ethridge of Lincoln Township, Dallas Co., Mo. on July 5, 1908. They were married at Ruth Ann Bartee's home (Thomas Perry Bartee died 1903) near Plad, Missouri.

 

Elmer was born in August of 1879, in Lincoln Township, Missouri. He was the son of Larkin W. and Nancy Ethridge. His mother and father were both born in Tennessee. Elmer Macklin Ethridge had these siblings (all born in Lincoln Township, Mo.); Mary J., born 1877; Lee A., born Sept., 1882; William C., born Nov., 1883; Jaley M., born Nov., 1886; James, born Sept. 1890.

 

Sarah and Elmer had five children. The 1910 census lists Elmers household as; Elmer, age 30, Sarah age 19, and Ruth E. as one year, one month old. The 1920 census lists Elmer as a "Widower" and having these children in his household; Ben R. age 9; Emma A., age 7. The census report is not correct, Elmer and Sarah were divorced at that time. Three of the children the couple had were living with Sarah at the time of the census, the other two with Elmer. The five children that were born to this couple are as follows: Ruth Elizabeth; Bertie Ray; Emma (Emmie) Ardelia; Burtie Macklin; and Mary Ethel. However, it is reported that Sarah took all the children with her when she and Elmer divorced. The 1920-information, as reported to the census taker, is incorrect.

Sarah later remarried and lived all of her life in the Buffalo, Missouri area.

 

 

David Rice Bartee, born February 27, 1896 in Dallas Co., Mo. was the sixth child born to Thomas Perry and Ruth Ann (Highbarger) Bartee.
