daughter of William and Sarah Sumner. William was born in 1835 in
Massachusetts. His parents were both born in New York (per 1880
census). Sarah was born in New York about 1834.
In 1880 William Sumner was a "Hotel Keeper" in Whiting,
Jackson Co., Kansas. George Dillon Reed was a "Boarder" at
the hotel in 1880. Mame (also spelled "Mamie") was a
seventeen-year-old daughter of William; she also lived in the hotel
in 1880. George and Mame did not marry until 13 years later; in 1893.
