Mary E. Whight
Aka. Mary E. Coats

Mary E. Whight, born about 1851 in Missouri, was the daughter of Dora Ann Whight (maiden name "Lewis"). She was the stepchild of Joseph Coats and Dora Ann Whight. Dora Ann, Mary's mother, first married a "Whight", then later married Joseph Coats. Mary E. Whight, step-daughter of Joseph Coats, is referred to (sometimes) as Mary E. Coats.

NOTE: The spelling of the name Whight is also found as "White" in some documents pertaing to Dora Ann, and also her daughter, Mary E.

Dora Ann (Lewis)-Wright-Coats is also known as "Dovie". Her father was born in Kentucky, her mother was born in Tennessee.
Mary E. Whight was Dovie's only "living" child (at the time of, and per the 1900 census report). This 1900 census would indicate that all children, except Mary E., were deceased by 1900. I don't know if the census information is totally correct about all the children. But, Virginia Elizabeth (Whight) Lee, sister to Mary E. (Whight) Lee, did die in 1900, per the obit of her husband, John W. Lee.
Dovie was a "Widow" in 1900, living within the household of her son-in-law, William Lee; in Sweet Springs, MO.

Joseph Coats was born about 1814 in Kentucky, and died before the 1900 census was taken. Dora Ann (Lewis) -Whight-Coats, wife of Joseph, was born in September of 1829 in Indiana. Joseph Coats and "Dovey" married on 16 May, 1858 in Livingston County, MO.

Joseph Coats also married Martha Reynolds on 27 Sep., 1838 (1st marriage) in Livingston County, Missouri. I currently don't have anything on Martha Reynolds to report.

James Isaac Whight, born abt., 1853 in Missouri.
Virginia Elizabeth Whight, born abt., 1855 in Missouri. She married John W. Lee, born Feb. 16, 1852. NOTE # 2
Joseph Coats, born abt., 1862 in Missouri.
Margaret Coats, born abt., 1864 in Missouri.
Merinda Coats, born abt., 1866 in Missouri.

Note # 1: Those listed above with the last name of "Whight" were step-children of Joseph Coats, children of Dovie by a previous marriage.
Note # 2: William A. Lee and John W. Lee were brothers; sons of Joel Lee and Catherine Lands (mis-recorded as "Sands" in Saline County, MO. records) Lee of Saline County, MO. (Two brothers married two sisters.)
