John William Jr. Ulmer & Elizabeth Jane Richey

It is not known, as of this time, how John Jr. Ulmer is related to the Ulmer lineage. We know that he is related because of strong circumstantial evidence. This is not just because of the "Ulmer" name, but also because of where he was born, who he married, and who he lived close to during these events.

I have placed this page here about him in hopes that someone may be able to document his relationship, as a son or grandson, of one of the known and documented other family members.

This information may change, as new information and documentation is known.

**********************************

John William Jr. Ulmer, born April 9, 1833 in Scott Co. Indiana. He married Elizabeth Jane Richey, June 1, 1852 in Scott Co., Indiana. John Jr. died  Sept. 9, 1911 in Randolph Co., Arkansas. Buried in Gross Cemetery, Attica,  Randolph Co. Arkansas.

John's father was obviously named John William (Sr.) or his named would not have been "John William Jr.". What we don't know is who John William Sr. Ulmer was the son of.

John William Jr. Ulmer could have been another grandson of Jacob Ulmer, born in 1758, or a great-nephew of his? Because of Census records and other information, it is most likely that John William Sr. Ulmer (father of the above listed John Jr.) was born prior to 1810. This would put his age in a time period that makes his age right for him to be a son of Jacob 1758. It is also believed that Jacob's wife died in 1809. This makes it a possibility that she could have died giving birth to John Sr. Ulmer? Jacob did not died until 1836. But it also possible that Jacob was not John's father, he could be the son of a brother of Jacob.

It is my guess that this John William Jr. Ulmer, listed above, was the son of John William Ulmer and Elizabeth Allhands. John Ulmer (the father of subject) was born between 1800 and 1809, in  Ohio or Pennsylvania. John (Sr.) Ulmer and Elizabeth Allhands were married September 12, 1822, in Scott Co., Indiana. The old records have the spelling of his name as "Elmore" instead of "Ulmer". LDS records have his last name spelled as "Ulmore".

Elizabeth Jane Richey, born May 14, 1834. Died Feb. 19, 1888. Buried in Gross Cemetery, Attica, Randolph Co., Arkansas. Elizabeth was the daughter of William & Cynthia Ann Collings. Elizabeth was also a sister to Burnettie Richey.  Burnettie Richey married Jacob C. Ulmer, born Aug 28, 1820 in Scott County, Indiana.  Jacob C. Ulmer, son of George Ulmer (born in 1789) may be a cousin to John Jr. Ulmer. Burnettie and Jacob C. married Nov. 10, 1857, in Scott Co., Indiana.  If Jacob C. Ulmer and John Ulmer Jr. are cousins, and it appears they are, descendants of these 2 lines are doubly related via the Ulmer and Richey lineage.

A shorter way of saying what all this above is talking about is for me to say this:

I think John William Ulmer Jr, was the son of John William Ulmer Sr., who was the son of Jacob Ulmer (1758); and that John William Ulmer Sr. (also known as John "Elmore") is a brother to William Ulmer, George Ulmer, and Johann Jacob (of 1798). Johann Jacob of 1798 died at age 2, in 1800; and it was the custom of early German families to name the next child born the same as a deceased child; therefore I believe that the next child born was named "John" as well. This John's full name was John William Ulmer.
