James Trueblood Ulmer
1899 - 1959
(Son of Thomas Ulmer)

James True Ulmer - aka."True", the son of Thomas Ulmer and Lucy Alfronso Pope, was born Mar. 23, 1899 at Hopkins, Mo.. He married Mary Ellen Butcher the 3rd of Nov., 1919. He was known as "True Ulmer". He died in Green Ridge, Mo., June 17, 1959. He is buried in Green Ridge Mo. Cemetery.

James was born about two miles southwest of Hopkins, Mo.. This is where his father and mother, Thomas and Lucy Ulmer, lived at the time of his birth. Around 1911, his father, Thomas Ulmer, moved the family to Green Ridge, Mo.. Later the family lived at Camp Branch, Mo.. He preferred to be called and known as "True".

Most all of True's life, after the family's move to Green Ridge, was centered around the Green Ridge - Camp Branch, Mo. area. He worked, helping his father in the livery stable they had at Green Ridge, and as a farmer part of his life; and he did a great amount of carpentry work. The period of him making a living as a carpenter is the time period I knew of his job as being. I knew him between the years of 1947, till his death in 1959. True, like many of this Ulmer family members are, was a real good carpenter. He build many homes in the Green Ridge area. At one time he also worked at the lumber yard in Green Ridge.

He and his wife, Mary, lived with James, True's Uncle, at Camp Branch. Mo. for awhile. This was after True and Mary were married. I think it was around the 1930's or so. James lived a mile or so south of Camp Branch at that time. Later, True and Mary lived in Camp Branch, then later on they moved back to Green Ridge, where his father, Thomas Ulmer, had moved the family to from Hopkins, Mo. around the year 1911.

With the exception of a short period, of about three 3 months (circa 1929), True lived the rest of his life in Green Ridge, Mo..

I was told this; James (True) and Mary had been working in their yard, mowing and such. True told Mary he was going in the house to watch "Wagon Train" on TV. Mary finished the work she wanted to do in their yard and went in; James was sitting in a chair in front of the TV, but Mary noticed his eyes were "Fixed" and not moving. James had passed away. He was a hard working man, that always took care of his family. He was only 60 years old at the time of his death.

True was my grandfather. I was 12 years old when he died. There is so much to tell about this very wonderful, loving, person. I'll add more about True, when and as my time permits.
