Emma was born in October of 1877 in Montgomery County, Mo.. She was the fifth child born to Thomas Perry and Emaline (Hubbard) Bartee. She married Elijah Chase Mooney on July 19, 1893 in Dallas County, Mo..

Elijah Chase Mooney was born Dec. 23, 1872 in Olathe, Johnson County, Kansas (died Aug. 13, 1941 in Camden Co., Mo.); was the son of William Frank Mooney and Elizabeth Ann Davis (aka: Lizzie). William Mooney was born in October of 1827, or 1828, in Highland, Ohio. Lizzie, mother of Elijah Chase Mooney, was born June 16, 1838 in Highland, Ohio. William's parents were both born in Virginia. Lizzie's father was born in North Carolina; her mother in Ohio. William died in Feb of 1909 in Auglaize Township, Camden Co., Mo. Lizzie died Jan. 10, 1910 in Auglaize Township, Camden Co., Mo. The couple was married in 1856.

An 1870 census indicates that William Frank Mooney's parents were living within his household in Shawnee Township, Johnson Co., Kansas. The nearest post office was at Olathe, Kansas. Their names were William (born 1800, in Virginia) and Esther (born in 1801, in Virginia) Mooney.

By 1880, William and Lizzie Mooney (parents of Elijah Chase Mooney) had moved their family to Elk Fork Township, Pettis Co., Missouri. Later, by the year 1900, William and Lizzie were living in Auglaize Township; next door lived Elijah and Emma.

Children (Elijah and his siblings) that were living in William Mooney's household in 1880 were; Thomas A., born 1860; William B., born 1863; Ella M., born 1867; Alice M., born 1869; James A., born 1871; Elijah Chase, born 1872; and John L., born 1876.

In the year 1900 Elijah and Emma (Bartee) Mooney were living in Auglaize Twp., Camden County, Missouri. In 1909 their son, Buel H. Mooney, was born in Missouri per the 1910 census report. However, by the year 1910 they were living in Washington Township, Rice Co., Kansas when the 1910 census was taken. By the year 1920 they had moved to Lathrop City, Clinton County, Missouri. Emma's older brother, Henry M. Bartee, and his family was also living in Clinton County, Missouri as early as 1910. Henry lived in Clinton Township, Clinton, Co., Mo.. By the year 1930, Elijah and Emma were once again living in Auglaize Township (Stoutland Town), Camden Co., Missouri.

Elijah (he preferred to go by his middle name, Chase) and Emma (Bartee) Mooney had 12 children:
Charles W., born, July 8, 1895 (died April 9, 1964); Thomas L., born April, 1897; Walter, born May 5, 1899; Edgar L., born March, 1900; Edwin C., born March, 1900, (twin to Edgar); Eula I., born in 1902; Cecil Ray, born in 1904, Ida Arlene, born Sept. 30, 1906; Buel H., born in 1909; and Jewell, born in 1909 (died May 5, 1909); Sylvan, born June 2, 1911; Emma Lois, born Aug. 29, 1915. All, but the last two children, were born in Camden Co., Missouri. The last two listed were born in, or near, Lathrop, Clinton County, Mo..
